Range Frequently Asked Questions
Pink Pistols Asheville hosts range days twice a month. Here are a few questions we frequently get asked about where we host and what folks need to do to attend. If you have additional questions, please reach out via the "Reach Out" tab!
Does attending cost admission?
This range is run by the state and is free. If you bring your own gun and ammo, there is no additional cost.
If you don't own a firearm, please bring cash ($10-$20) to pay for ammunition to shoot someone else's gun. If this is prohibitive to pay for ammo please reach out, we have donated ammo to share in a limited supply.
What facilities does the range have?
It is an outdoor range - dress for the weather. The shooting benches are covered though, so we shoot rain or shine.
There is parking on site with handicap spaces available and wheelchair-accessible shooting lanes on the range.
There is a porta-potty and handwashing station, but no other facilities. There’s no cell signal either.
Is the staff going to be affirming of my identity?
The folks who run the range are queer-friendly and supportive of Pink Pistols, but are not exactly part of the queer community.
They’re not always the best about remembering genders and pronouns, but they try. They respond well to polite corrections if they slip up.
Do I need to dress a certain way?
You will need to wear eye and ear protection. We can loan you some, just let us know ahead of time.
You cannot wear open-toed shoes or low-cut tops. That may sound like a strange requirement, but anybody who has had hot brass go down their shirt will tell you it’s actually pretty reasonable.
Does the staff record my identification information?
After watching a short video explaining the range rules and showing your ID, you will be given a card to prove that you’ve watched the video and shown your ID.
The ID check is a formality – they don’t record it and if you go by a different name, just tell them and they’ll put your preferred name on the range card. Bring this card with you the next time you go to the range and you can skip these steps.
After getting your card you can sign in on the tablet and you’re ready to go!
